My First Day

Starting at our Centre is an exciting milestone for both children and families, and we want to make sure your first day with us feels smooth, welcoming, and stress-free. This page will provide a detailed list of what you’ll need to bring when you drop your child off for the very first time, along with helpful information about what you can expect throughout the day.

You’ll find guidance on essential items such as extra clothing, indoor shoes, comfort items, weather-appropriate gear, and any special supplies your child may require. We’ll also walk you through our drop-off process, introducing you to our friendly staff, daily routine, and how we help your child settle in comfortably.

This section is designed to answer your questions in advance, so you can feel confident knowing your child will be well cared for, supported, and encouraged from the moment they arrive. Our goal is to make that first day a positive beginning to your child’s journey at our Centre—one filled with smiles, new friendships, and a sense of belonging.

What to Expect on Your Child’s First Day

We understand that the first day at a new Centre can be an emotional experience for both children and parents. It’s natural for some children to feel unsure or have difficulty separating from their parents at drop-off. Rest assured, your child is in caring and capable hands at Casper’s. Our educators will welcome them warmly, help them get settled, and provide comfort and reassurance throughout the day. It’s perfectly okay to call and check in on your child, and you can also stay connected through the Lillio app. This app allows you to see updates on your child’s activities, meals, naps, and more, as well as communicate directly with your child’s educators in real time.

Meals and Snacks

Casper’s provides two nutritious snacks and a wholesome lunch each day.

  • Morning Snack: Served between 7:30–9:00 AM

  • Lunch: Served at 11:30 AM

  • Afternoon Snack: Served at 2:00 PM

Water is provided with snacks, and milk is served with Morning Snack and lunch. If your child requires milk or formula in a bottle, please send it along so we can provide it at the right times. For children who remain at the Centre after 5:30 PM, we offer a light snack to keep them comfortable until dinner at home.

If your child has specific dietary needs or food restrictions, please share these with the educators who are directly caring for them. For children just starting solids, let us know what foods have been introduced at home so we can maintain consistency and offer only safe, familiar options. If your child eats table food, they will enjoy the same meals prepared at the Centre, which are designed to be balanced, child-friendly, and nutritious.

Nap and Rest Time

Nap time begins at 12:00 PM for all children. For infants or children who require two naps, we provide additional rest periods based on the schedule that works best for your child. We ask parents to let us know their child’s usual nap times, and our educators do their best to follow these patterns while the child is in our care. This helps ensure a smooth transition into the Centre’s daily routine while respecting your child’s natural sleep rhythm. As children grow and adjust, we gradually help them adapt to the Centre’s schedule, always keeping their comfort, rest needs, and wellbeing as our priority. We do not wake children from their naps unless specifically requested by parents, as we follow each child’s natural rhythm. Our educators will do their best to follow your child’s routine and cues for rest, ensuring they feel secure and comfortable.

Hygiene and Health Practices

Casper’s staff are trained in proper handwashing and sanitizing techniques. We teach children to wash their hands before and after eating, after toileting, and after outdoor play. This not only keeps them healthy but also builds lifelong hygiene habits. Our environment and materials are cleaned regularly to maintain a safe and healthy space for all.

Learning Through Play

Your child will take part in a variety of activities each day that support social, cognitive, language, physical, creative, and spiritual development. These activities are shaped by your child’s interests, giving them the opportunity to explore topics and materials they are naturally curious about. We believe that children learn best through play, and our program embraces the Play and Exploration model to create a home-like, welcoming environment.

We use natural materials, loose parts, and real-life tools to spark curiosity and encourage problem-solving. Whether it’s building with blocks, engaging in dramatic play, painting, or gardening, each experience is designed to foster independence, creativity, and critical thinking.

Messy Play and Exploration

At Casper’s, we believe that hands-on, sometimes messy play is a vital part of learning. We often use washable materials, but some activities—like painting, gardening, or sensory play—may leave temporary marks on clothing or skin. We recommend sending your child in comfortable, play-friendly clothes so they can explore freely without worry.

Our educators are committed to creating experiences that expand on what children already know while introducing them to new skills and ideas. We strive to make each day full of joy, discovery, and growth, ensuring that your child feels supported, safe, and excited to return tomorrow.

What to Remember

To help your child have a smooth and enjoyable experience at Casper’s, there are a few important reminders for parents and caregivers:

Label Everything: Please label all of your child’s belongings, including clothing, shoes, bottles, blankets, and personal items. This helps us ensure that nothing gets lost or misplaced. For your convenience, you can order stickers and other labeling materials through our ongoing fundraiser with Mabel’s Labels.

Dress for Messy Play: Children are naturally curious and love to explore, which often leads to messy hands, clothes, and sometimes shoes. Please dress your child in clothing that can get dirty and bring extra sets of clothing so they are comfortable and able to fully participate in all activities.

Outdoor Gear: Children spend time outdoors every day, regardless of the season. Please make sure your child has the appropriate outdoor gear, including a hat to protect them from the sun or cold. Seasonal items such as mittens, scarves, winter boots, or rain jackets should also be provided when applicable, so your child can enjoy outdoor play safely and comfortably.

Communication is Key: Open communication with your child’s educators is essential. Share information about your child’s routines, likes and dislikes, dietary needs, and any other relevant information. The more we know about your child, the better we can support their learning, growth, and comfort while they are with us.

Stay Connected and Involved: Your child’s experience at Casper’s is a partnership between families and educators. We encourage parents to ask questions, provide updates about their child, and participate in our community when possible. This helps us provide a consistent, nurturing environment that supports your child’s development.

We are genuinely excited to learn, grow, and explore alongside you and your child. By working together, we create a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment where every child can thrive. Welcome to the Casper’s Family—we can’t wait to start this journey with you!
